Knowledge is power and asking your Property Professional these 5 questions could save you time and effort and will make your search for the best property a better experience.

1. Does the property have building plans? Make sure the property has approved municipal building plans. Most banks require the plans when purchasing the property or if you wanted to make changes to the property at a later stage, you would need the plans.

2. What is included in the sale? Dont assume that the expensive gas stove is included in the sale. Ask the agent to make a list of what is included and what is not and have it form part of the sales agreement.

3. Has any work been done to the property in the past year? It is important to know if the changes were made, due to it being something they had to fix or was it something to just improve the overall look of the property.

4. Has the property repeatedly changed ownership in a short period of time? There is usually a very good reason if owners change more frequently and it is important to know why.

5. Which schools, hospitals and centres are close to the property? Should you be starting with a family, this is an important question to ask, the school closest to the home, will most likely be the school that your child will be allowed to go to.
